Nr Vouvent, Vendée, France
This romantic hide away windmill is set just outside
a small village. The only noise comes from the
church bells that chime hourly. The sound of sheep
and a couple of cows in the surrounding fields
really emphasises the tranquility of the area.
Built in 1885, this charming property has character
and comfort. In 1975 the original workings were
removed and the building was changed from a working
Windmill into what can only be very loosly termed a
residence.
The full renovation includes, mains electricity,
mains water, septic tank, new roof made from hand
crafted Chestnut tiles, Oak floors, Double glazed
Oak windows and shutters, Granite work surfaces in
the kitchen and a modern bathroom with large shower
cubicle.
The windmill is arranged on four levels, kitchen on
the ground floor, upstairs is the cosy living room
with wood burning stove, a well equipped bathroom is
on level three and the romantic bedroom on the top
floor.
There is a good sized garden shed and Barbecue Area
(with exterior lighting) from which the wonderful
sunsets can be enjoyed. The Moulin is classified as
a "Monument Historic" and as such cannot be extended
or externally modified.
Situated approximately an hour south of Nantes and
an equal distance inland from the seaside town of La
Rochelle where you can sample the renowned fresh
fish and seafood in the many restaurants located by
the beach front. The nearest town to the Moulin is
Fontenay Le Comte, the ancient capital of the
Vendee.
A short drive
will take you to the medieval village of Vouvant,
(designated one of the prettiest in France) and
Mervant Forest with it's walks, cycle tracks,
large leisure lake and various other attractions.
