I just wanted to say a big thank you to you for having such a
brilliant
website and also for putting my church at the top of your list; thank
you.
The very day that you put it on, it was seen by the Scottish Sunday
express, who phoned me up for an interview the very next day! As
requested, I sent them my photographs and further information.
That Sunday, there was a half page editorial about converted churches
in Scotland, there was a brilliant section on my church and the only
three pictures they'd printed were of my church as well. If that
wasn't enough, BBC Birmingham phoned me up and are going to use my
photos and info in a slot in one of their programmes in about three
months, called 'To Buy or Not to Buy'! Thanks again John.
Wendy.

the front of the property and has been beautifully

A most unusual
property with huge character and charm.

The Old School retains its original bell tower and bell and inside the
old school room provides both a splendid and spacious living/dining
area as well as a galleried bedroom. A few minutes from the award
winning and Michelin starred Masons Arms restaurant. NO CHAIN
There are exposed timbers, a spacious kitchen, 3 bedrooms and in the
bathroom a genuine restored Victorian canopy bath. Whilst the bedrooms
may be on the small side for some people the unusual features of the
property and the spacious living accommodation more than compensate. A
very pretty garden has been created to the front of the house and there
are 2 timber storage sheds as well as a further small brick built store.
Solid oak gothic style front door into:
Lobby: Slate floor, half height wood panelling and built in storage
cupboard.
Living Room/Diner: 35'9" (10.90m) x 15'0" (4.57m). A really lovely room
that formed the original school room. Exposed ceiling timbers,
galleried upper room, inglenook fireplace with 20kw wood burner. Door
to secondary lobby, bathroom, kitchen and stairs to gallery.
Galleried bedroom: 15'0" (4.57m) x 12'6" (3.81m). A most unusual room
in the eaves of the building.
2nd Lobby: Built in cupboard, intruder alarm control panel and solid
timber door to front of property.
Bathroom: Slate floor, unique restored Victorian canopy bath with
shower over and matching wc, hand basin and heated towel rail
Kitchen: 17'10" (5.44m) x 15'0" (4.57m). Range of timber fronted base
and wall units, integral electric hob and oven, timber flooring,

An
exemplary example of a former Wesleyan Chapel dating from the early
19th century located in a sought-after village within easy reach of
Truro and equi-distant from the north and south coasts with their sandy

The chapel was sympathetically converted in the late 1990’s and
skilfully respects the original architecture whilst at the same time
creating a comfortable home.
Large entrance hall, Living Room occupying the main body of the chapel
and of two-storey height. A spiral staircase leads to a Library Gallery
whilst two staircases lead to the first floor.
Kitchen fitted with Bosch and Neff appliances
3 bedrooms, and two bathrooms
There is a large garden which leads down to a small stream and a large

Churchfield
House is a detached former church of Doulting stone to the
design of William Butterfield (1840-1900). His other work included All
Saints Church, London, Rugby School and Keeble
College, Oxford.
The original church was built in 1856 and became pastorally redundant
in 1981. The building has been sympathetically and imaginatively
designed to provide a beautiful and spacious home whilst retaining much
of the original character and drama of the former church. Of particular
note are the stained glass gothic windows with leaded lights attributed
to Alexander Gibb. |

Old Sodbury, Chipping
Sodbury, Bath/Bristol
Providence Chapel is in
the centre of the village of Old Sodbury, just 2.5 miles from junction
18 of the M4 (the Bath/Stroud exit). Nearest town is Chipping Sodbury
(2 miles), nearest city Bristol or Bath (each 13 miles).
A Baptist chapel built
in 1881, it was converted into an Artist’s Residence in 2001, which
means that all the ground floor is studio work space, the first floor
is living space and the attic room is a mixture of the two. The studio
consists of 2 main rooms (one with industrial extractor fan) and a 3rd
room which is utility containing a 160x 80cm sink. Of course it doesn’t
have to remain this way as I have the original architects drawings
detailing how the studios could convert to bedrooms, plus en suite. Or
the studio area could become a separate apartment. The space is
flexible.
The first floor is a
bright living room with kitchen area, bathroom and bedroom. The
attic room has 2 velux windows, is presently being used as a guest room
along with print storage (I’m a printmaker).
There’s a garden to the
front and off street parking for two cars.

Detached former Gospel Hall recently
converted into a very
stylish home, with excellent potential for further development within
the roof void and extension/improvement to the adjoining detached
Sunday School. The hall features double chapel doors, Star of David
detailing on the weatherboards, chapel floor tiles in the reception
hall, and an extraordinary wooden ceiling in the undeveloped portion of
the main assembly hall.
Currently with two
bedrooms, the current owners
believe further development has the potential to add a further two or
three bedrooms.
On the ground floor is
a large assembly hall/reception room about 27’ x
26’ with vaulted ceiling to a height of approximately 21`ft. The
farmhouse style kitchen/breakfast room is centred round a gas-fired
Rayburn serving central heating and hot water. There is a large ground
floor double bedroom, with woodburner. Ground floor also features a
bathroom, large study, and spacious original reception hall
of about 15’ x 8’. Upstairs, there is a large double bedroom with
adjoining alcove ideal for ensuite conversion. Outside, there's a
detached Sunday School, about 16’ x 13’. Very private
cottage-style south facing gardens with oak and lime trees.
Located near
Heathfield, with Tunbridge Wells, Lewes and Eastbourne all
approximately 15 miles away. London one hour and five minutes from
Stonegate Station. The local primary school is less than one minutes'
walk; woodland walks within two minutes.

set in a private secluded , garden in the village of Ottershaw between
Weybridge and
Woking, just over 1 mile outside motorway

bedrooms on the first and second floors. The total floor space is 1978

original rear exterior wall retaining all of the exposed stone
complimented with the Gothic window surrounds, forms a large
feature wall of the dining room. There is a range of fitted and free

benefits from hard flooring throughout the ground
floor, with slate in the dining room and man made limestone throughout
the remainder of the ground floor. It is totally maintenance free!
The garden is private and easily maintained with a slate
chippings area, paved patio area, flower beds, trees and shrubs,
together with parking area for six or
more cars. |

Built
c.1840 on the site of the former priory, the Old Lodge is a
striking example of Victorian neo-Gothic architecture, strongly
influenced by the ideas of John Ruskin, with an
emphasis on the work of individual craftsmen which has continued
throughtout the conservation. This deceptively
spacious 2–3 bedroom detached home sits in a tranquil setting on the
edge of a cemetery, with views of the nearby church and incorporates,
amongst a wealth of period features, an exceptional vaulted private
chapel. It offers a plethora of original features both internally and
externally, including neo-Gothic porch and windows and ornamental barge
boards to gables. There is fine Victorian stone masonry throughout,
including ornate limestone open bay and lancet windows with limestone
mullions and limestone fireplaces with carved mantel and jambs and
stone hearths. All of the rooms boast exposed floorboards or tiles,
whilst many have fine woodwork such as doors with carved and chamfered
jambs, muntins and architraves; and oversized skirting boards.
Every downstairs room is double aspect. The Old Lodge
additionally benefits from two reception rooms, kitchen/utility room
and family bathroom. The property enjoys gas to radiator central
heating, a walled garden and off road parking for up to three cars.
Huntingdon is just 52
minutes from London by train.

This is
a fascinating combination of late Georgian and early Victorian
architecture, being a townhouse of circa 1800 that was altered and
extended by AWN Pugin in 1849 to form a convent. It is situated next to
St.Giles’ roman catholic church, reckoned by all to be his finest work.
The present owners bought the convent in a dilapidated condition 12
years ago and have renovated it, restoring many of the features that
had been lost over the years. Of especial note are the cloisters, the
first-floor chapel, and the belltower, from the top of which are
far-reaching views. At the rear of the house is a private walled
garden, the whole site being about 0.3 acres.
There are 4 reception
rooms, 5 double bedrooms and 5 attic rooms, along
with 2 bathrooms and a cellar. There is even a well in the garden.
Cheadle is a market
town surrounded by beautiful countryside, about 10
miles from Stoke-on-Trent and 5 miles from Alton Towers (originally the
seat of the Earl of Shrewsbury who paid for Pugin to erect the church
and convent). The convent is adjacent to St.Giles’ roman catholic
primary school and within easy walking distance of Painsley Catholic
College, rated by Ofsted as 'outstanding'.

A beautiful
Medieval church, sympathetically converted
into a lovely home with many original features. Situated
within a conservation area in a stunning rural location, only 11 miles
from the M6 and within commuting distance of both Edinburgh and Glasgow.
Attractive arched timber double-doors lead into a Victorian tiled
entrance porch with a 12th century roundel set into the window-sill.
Another arched timber door to a large open plan
kitchen/dining room with solid beech units, granite worktops and a
Rangemaster double-oven stove. The property has four double
bedrooms, three of which have large built-in double wardrobes, and the
master bedroom has an en-suite shower room and secondary
glazing. There is also a large family bathroom with a
freestanding-bath and a utility room plumbed for a washing/drying
machine. There is a stained glass window and three large
Medieval Windows. There are partially timber-panelled walls, vaulted
wooden ceilings and beautiful, arched leaded-light windows
throughout.
There is a large garden area to the side of the property and ample
off-road parking to the front and side. Oil-fired central heating and
mains
electricity. All carpets are included in the sale.
Set into the North side of the church, is an old Medieval
doorway (now filled-in) containing an original coat-of-arms, and
another, smaller coat of arms set into the East end of the church.
There are also two Medieval arched stone recesses in the sitting-room.
There is a view of Tinto Hill and Quathquan, an ancient Roman
hill-fort.
The graveyard is no-longer used but is immaculately looked after by the
local council.
This church has a really lovely atmosphere, is very peaceful and has no
ghosts! From the front door, you can see two historic monuments, the
old ruined castle and the dovecote which date back to the 12th century.
The surrounding countryside is beautiful and yet you are only 5 1/2
miles from Biggar, 9 miles from Lanark and about three quarters of an
hour from Edinburgh, Glasgow and Peebles. It is also only 11
miles from the M6.

Unusual
Quinta with
Chapel on 15ha to Renovate
This is one of those
special properties which do not come up for sale
very often. Located in the protected National Park outside a little
village which lies along the slopes of the Serra da Estrela mountains.
Only 1 km from Seia and Gouveia it borders the N17 national road.
This property comes
complete with its very own centuries old chapel!
There are also remains of stone-built houses as well as the farm
buildings of old, including two antique granite bread ovens. This is a
property where history still breathes and it needs someone with courage
get its heart beating again.
The land of over 15ha
comprises grazing land, agricultural land and
forested areas.
Abundant water is
supplied by
2 watermines (fed by natural sprrings)
and 3 granite lined wells. There is also a big granite water tank as a
reservoir.
